The data indicate the number of individuals receiving assistance from SNAP. Formerly known as Food Stamps, SNAP helps low income families to purchase food. SNAP recipients are measured by individuals. SNAP cases are measured by "assistance units" which are roughly comparable to households and can include multiple recipients who prepare and eat food together. Connecticut Department of Social Services collects monthly and annual data and reports it annually. CTdata.org carries annual data.

Social Assistance

For rate calculations, population and household estimates are from the 2000 and 2010 US decennial census. Intermediate years between 2000 and 2010 are calculated averages (intercensal estimates). For years after 2010, values for 2010 are used as the denominator.
